Gandhi (continued)

To begin class, you will individually complete the questions based on the biography of Gandhi (p.283). We will then discuss these ideas in a small groups (p.276-277). If time remains, we will begin watching clips of the movie “Gandhi.”

HW: In May, 2017, India Congress MP and writer Shashi Tharoor participated in a debate at Oxford University entitled, "“This House Believes Britain Owes Reparations to her Former Colonies.” Watch his speech, and take detailed notes. Then answer the following questions:

  1. What are his 5 strongest pieces of evidence for why Britain owes Indian reparation?
  2. What questions do you have about his speech, either technical or philosophical? You must come up with at least 3 questions?
  3. Do you believe Britain owes reparations to its former colonies? Why or why not?
If it is helpful, take a look at the article: 3 reasons why Shashi Tharoor's speech at Oxford is a must watch.
